TOS Review: Lesson Planet

As a member of this year's Homeschool Crew we have had the amazing opportunity to evaluate several Homeschool and Homemaking Products in exchange for an honest review. I was excited to receive a trial three month membership to Lesson Planet this Spring. I have used Lesson Planet lesson plans to supplement my curriculum in the past.

Lesson Planet makes it easy for teachers and parents to search over 225,000 online lesson plans and worksheets that have been reviewed and rated by teachers. Lesson Planet has a 10 day free trial to allow teachers and parents to try the site with no obligation. After the free trial, membership is only $39.95/year

Lesson Planet is known as "The search engine for teachers". A perfect description in my opinion! Each lesson plan is teacher approved by rating and grade level. A one stop buffet of lesson plans, you can search by themes, subjects, and a curriculum calender. Helpful lesson plan articles are shared as well, teaching you how to make the most of this feast! Worksheets, around 75,000 of them, will supply you with notebooking pages and evaluations. Over the years, I have been so pleased with the creative, innovative and engaging lesson plans I have found at this site.

Members have access to web-based tools. These include a LessonMaker, NewsletterMaker,
and Online storage. Not only do you have access to the 'buffet' of plans but you can cook up your very own by using these additional online resources! Memberships are available to Classroom teachers, Homeschools, Private and Public Schools, and even whole districts. The search-engine site began in 1999 and was designed specifically with educators in mind. It is an advertising free site, relying solely on member support.

A very helpful tool at this site is the ability to search State Standards. In Florida I have a choice of how a yearly evaluation will be administered and filed with the local school board. We have always done portfolios along with interviews.
This must be done by a local certified teacher. With the help of the standard tool at Lesson Planet, I am able to match what we have accomplished with state standards. Note that we do not follow exactly by grade level so some times questions arise during our evaluations. By using this tool, I can show from year to year, how we are growing and achieving according to our evaluator's measurement of thinking. I then turn around and use these to help me set objectives for the next years studies. Take advantage of this helpful tool. While it is time consuming it will help you in planning and evaluating! Just go to the homepage, and click on the tab "State Standards".
