TOS Review: The Terrestria Chronicles by Ed Dunlop

The screen door slammed once again ,just now, as my son darted out yelling, "Love you Mom!" Raising a young man means I am preparing a future leader of both country, community, church and home. My number one desire is to raise a "man after God's own heart". I spend much time in the word and in prayer seeking God's guidance as I train him up to have a clean heart and mind.

"Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word." Psalm 119:9

Ed Dunlop as created a product that appeals to our entire family, but I wanted to address how beneficial his writings are for my son! When our review package arrived my daughter grabbed one book and my son and I another. Our whole family has fallen in love with the book series, "Terrestria Chronicles". This is a "fantasy series with an eternal message." Written for ages 10&up we agree all ages can benefit from a reading and discussion of this book series. Parents, Homeschools and Youth Leaders have a great resource available through this series and the Study Guide that is available for purchase. There are seven books in the series.

We received, Book One: The Sword, The Ring, The Parchment and Book Seven: The Great War in return for our honest review as a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew. From Cross and Crown Publishing and Ed Dunlop comes this exciting series. Get ready to travel back to the days of noble knights and powerful warlords... daring quests and deadly dragons... the days of honor and valor and chivalry. "Visit the kingdom of Terrestria, a land where knights and their ladies live in castles and where dragons still roam (occasionally)." However, you will soon find this is an allegory written with a deeper meaning. This series was written to honor and glorify our Lord as King. It was written to encourage readers, especially children, to a deeper walk with their Lord. It is a call to service in His name. It reminds us all to guard our hearts!

Please note: this series does need to be read in order.

Book One:The Sword, The Ring, The Parchment
Our daughter is currently reading this allegory. She has been captivated and his making a point to share this with others as she speaks with young people. She currently is away from home on such an engagement. She mentioned before she left, that the characters are interesting and she loved the allegorical writing. She discussed with me what a great read aloud this would be for pre-teens who are particularly drawn into the fantasy world these days. She is eager to finish her book and trade with me. We are getting the beginning and the end. We hope to eventually purchase the entire set. She has mentioned she is going to explore doing a Book Study using Book 1 with our current youth group. She is 18 and a Homeschool graduate/College student who leads her own ministry to teen girls. How exciting and what possibilities could there be for the young people in our inner city church? Our daughter obviously found the book exciting to read and captivating! She also shared with me a summarization of the book and how it serves to introduce us to the character's and Kingdom of Terrestia. Book one includes a glossary, a castle fact guide, and an ABC guide to salvation. This book is 187 pages long.

Here is the overview of this title from the website:
"Young Josiah is a slave to Argamor, the powerful warlord who has plans to seize the throne from King Emmanuel. When Josiah fails in his attempt to escape slavery, Emmanuel not only sets him free forever, but adopts him into the Royal Family. The book presents an unforgettable picture of our salvation and reminds the reader what a wondrous thing it is to be redeemed. Alive with fast-paced action in a medieval setting, Book 1 of the Terrestria allegory series encourages the reader to live as a child of the King!"

Book Seven:The Great War
This was the second of the two books we received. My son and I immediately started reading this as a read aloud during our Bible Class. We try to read a chapter daily, discuss any morals/values learned from the story, and discuss what scripture also tells us on the that same topic. My son hangs on every word and often asks if we can read on! After a few chapters he declared, "They need to make a movie of this series!" I told him if no one did, maybe he could grow up and do so! He often is found now role-playing Terrestia with sword and shield in hand. I am fine with this because he is processing what he has learned. He is looking at it as serving the King and being fearless in his faith! PTL!
Here is a piece from the back cover of Book Seven: The Great War.
"Throughout the eons of time, the kingdom of Terrestia has been at war. Argamor and his dark forces are still determined to wrest control of the kingdom from the hands of the wise and powerful King Emmanuel. Argamor's evil plans include Princess Gilda-
her captivity is sure to result in the defeat of Prince Josiah and the downfall of the Castle of Faith. In this thrilling final episode of the Terrestria Chronicles, the reader catches just a glimpse of the almighty power of King Emmanuel and of the wondrous future that awaits his children in the Golden City. ~ Book By Ed Dunlop"

You can read more on the Great War here. This book is 201 pages long. The ending contains a poem titled, "The End Times". A Glossary, information on Knights and Castles, and a section titled, "Preparing for the King's Return", are also included. This is a wonderful 'spark' for discussing the current times we live in and introducing more on the book of Revelation to the pre-teen age group. Our son is twelve. There is NO magic or wizardry in this series! This is a new favorite of our family library and will be shared with generations to come!
