TOS Review: A Journey Through Learning

What a fun Hands-On idea lapbooking is! Are you like me though and your end product never looks like the pretty ones on other blogs? Hahaha

I was excited and a little apprehensive when I realized I had the chance to review five lapbook units from "A Journey Through Learning"! I received the downloads for Deserts, Amphibians, Reptiles, Parables of Jesus, and Autumn! I had not requested titles and was so thankful God supplied titles that were going to go right along with topics we planned to cover this year! We always claim that God will provide our every need, but I find myself blown away by His love when gifts like this arrive!

Paula and Nancy are the founders of this company. Two Homeschooling Moms, who are also best-friends, looking for creative ways to present topics to their children, they developed this curriculum. Their goal is to present lessons that are interesting, encouraging, God-honoring and FUN! There site offers a range of Lapbooks and Unit Studies. They carry notebooking, which I am better at, as well. I also noticed a separate section of copywork. Visit their site and see a slideshow demonstration or sign up for classes!

If you unsure what a Lapbook is, they have wonderfully defined and demonstrated the process at A Journey Through Learning! You can also sign up for their newsletter on the Home-page and receive
a free download! Their curriculum is very user-friendly and economical. I liked that that they have beautiful color templates which you print on white-paper. I was excited to see that they gave step-by-step written and picture directions for creating the lapbook! What a help! Be sure and check back in with me throughout the year for pictures of our lapbooks! I have a feeling we will finally be proud of one our creations!

All the Units I received are for Grades 2-7. We have just started the Autumn Lapbook.
We plan to read one study guide sheet and do the related activities per week, along with other studies we are currently doing. My son just started Middle School studies.
He usually does not enjoy cutting and pasting, but I think this lapbook unit is going to surprise him. The activities are varied. Included are notebooking pages and other tips and prints for furthering the study for older children. We will enjoy building a nest, cooking, and trying to find some signs of fall in the deep South! I look forward to the Nature Scavenger Hunt but may have to tweak it a bit for our area. A Book List was included and I was able to find one book at our library, on an reading interest level of my son. There is a book report form and a book list form included for reading associated with your study. Previewing the other titles they follow much of the same format. I like that many of the mini-booklets created are a symbol of active work done by you and your child. It is not just read, write, fold!
Because we are evaluated every year by a portfolio and interview process, I like that we will have some colorful, creative work in the form of lapbooks to turn in with our notebooking activities, and other eclectic work done in our lifestyle of learning!

I hope you will check out this wonderful resource. Prices are very affordable. As an example: The price for the Autumn Instant Download is $13.00. You may also receive it on CD for $14.00 or as a printed version for $21.00. Here is a cost-effective, creative way to teach multi-ages in your Homeschool! Be sure and send me pics of your creativity and I'll be sure and post them for our readers! God bless you this week and happy lapbooking days ahead!
